Asr
Maghrib
Isha
Method: Umm al-Qura (Fajr -18.5°, Isha = Maghrib + 90 min). Asr uses the Shafi'i shadow factor (1). Timezone: GST (UTC+4). Times are calculated, not from live data - local announcements may differ by a few minutes.
How prayer times are calculated
Prayer times depend on the sun's position relative to your latitude and longitude on a given date. Astronomical formulas give a solar declination and equation of time; from these we compute the hour angles for each prayer's defining sun position. The Umm al-Qura method (used in Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia) sets Fajr at 18.5° below the horizon and fixes Isha at 90 minutes after Maghrib.
Worked example
For Riyadh on 1 May 2026: solar noon ≈ 12:23 GST. With Fajr at -18.5° depression, Fajr falls roughly at 04:11; Sunrise about 05:42; Asr (Shafi'i) about 15:32; Maghrib 18:55; Isha 20:25.
Frequently asked questions
Which calculation method does this use?
Umm al-Qura - Fajr at -18.5° solar depression, Isha at Maghrib + 90 minutes. Asr uses the Shafi'i shadow factor (1).
Why might this differ from my mosque?
Different schools use different angles. Hanafi Asr uses shadow factor 2 - about 30-60 minutes later. Mosques sometimes also pad a few minutes for safety.
Which Saudi Arabia cities are supported?
All seven emirates plus Al Ain are pre-set.
Are the times in local time?
Yes - all times are GST (UTC+4).
